Are there rules for Halloween?
Yesterday I offered to posts anything you wanted on the site…and you came through! Over the next several days, I will be posting various topics that have been emailed from neighbors. Below is the first.
Dear Blogger,
Thanks for allowing us to drive the content of the site. As you know, this year Halloween falls on a Friday night. I am assuming that the children will be trick or treating on that night. Last year we had what seems like 100’s of trick or treaters. Last year, most did not have on costumes, were WAY TO OLD and were very disrespectful. I would like to know from other neighbors how you handle Halloween. I was so put off last year that I had almost decided not to participate this year. Given the state of the economy, I would just as soon save the money. When we were growing up we always had to dress up. We stopped trick or treating at about 13 or 14 years old. If the porch light was off, we did not visit that house and all activities ended around 9 or 9:30. Being a single female, I am extremely uneasy with the 17-18 year old boys coming up on the porch. Especially at 10 pm or later. Another trend that bothers me are the young women that bring the 2 month old baby’s wanting to fill their bags as well. (Get real, babies can’t eat candy).
I was wondering, how do you handle these situations? I would like to hand out candy but hate the way it is just expected. I almost want to hang a sign at the street that says. STOP: IN ORDER TO TRICK OR TREAT YOU MUST BE LESS THAN 13 YEARS OLD, BE WEARING A COSTUME AND BE ABLE TO SPEAK/WALK. Am I over thinking this?
Thanks, you can use my name!
