Hearings for Sangrias.
SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - A proposed Sangria’s restaurant needs approval from the city’s Architectural Review Commission before its owners can remodel and enlarge a former auto repair shop. The owners also want to close a portion of Mohawk Avenue, which dead-ends at Cherokee Avenue and an Interstate 275 exit. A hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. yesterday at city council chambers, 315 E. Kennedy Blvd. The commission must review the plans because the site is in a historic district. The former South Howard Avenue restaurant closed in 2007 because of a landlord dispute, and its owners opted to relocate to the former Larry’s 4X4 Auto Service Center, 512 E. Hillsborough Ave. A partnership called Historic 512 bought the property in May for $1.2 million, records show. In February, the city council approved beer, wine and liquor sales for the restaurant. The Old SEMINOLE HEIGHTS Neighborhood Association supported alcohol sales with the stipulation that the restaurant never become a bar. Hyde Park architect and historic preservationist Roger Grunke will present the site plan and building design to the review commission. The council is scheduled Nov. 13 to consider rezoning the property.

On another note has everybody seen that Merino’s is out of business. I hope this isn’t a trend.
, Is it?!? And to think I wanted to get a sandwich there for lunch tomorrow.
.
Obama’s fault.
.
He may have moved. I heard he was interested in finding a larger place, hope that was the case instead.
#2) DUH!,
Of course it’s a trend.
Goes hand in hand with all the for sale signs.
Merino’s is closed - not relocated. The landlord did not buy him out. He will do another restaurant later. This one had too few Square Feet and not enough parking and no way to expand.
As for Sangria’s, they were denied their Certificate of Appropriateness. The only person at the hearing from all of SH was Randy Baron. He testified in favor of Sangria’s.
Yes, once again only Randy shows to represent OSHNA.Where are the newly elected board members? H-E-L-L-O ?
Are you guys and gals out there for our neighborhood?
Sadly, the membership elected a board that is MIA on the big issues. Kudos for Randy. Kudos for Susan.
Does everyone remember that ALL of the candidates stated they would attend meetings at City Council unless it conflicted with work schedules? Well so far other than Susan, the board members have missed the neighborhood specific meetings that have been in the evening.
Harmon, DiBona, and Hunter I believe attended the TECO Franchise hearing at City Council. But if you are a President who wants to run for City Council then only city wide issues are important.
BTW what happened to all that “open communication” that was to be the halmark of the Harmon administration? Must have been just for election night.
RLF is getting restless.
Be careful who you are targeting, you may be surprised who is really behind the comment.
Seminole Heights was well represented at the TECO franchise agreement hearing. It seemed as if every speaker hailed from Seminole Heights. From the board, Jeff, Susan, Doreen, Evan and Shawn showed up, with Jeff speaking for OSHNA and Susan speaking on her own behalf. Other speakers who live in S.H. included Diane Jenkins, C.J. Reynolds, Phil Compton and me (my apologies to those I missed). The important thing was that the franchise agreement will be sent back to the administration for further negotiation and a mandate from City Council to get a better deal for the city and its residents. Not one member of the public spoke in favor of the agreement and many valid points were made regarding its insufficiencies. Clearly, the public had an impact on Council. To this end, it has been proposed that THAN (the umbrella group of neighborhood associations) send a formal letter to the Mayor asking her to instruct the city attorney to provide an opportunity for public comment DURING the negotiations. THAN will vote on the issue at their next meeting. Hopefully, this turn of events will make it clear to the administration that on something as important as the franchise agreement, the voices of the residents needs to be heard.

I had my fill of the lies, hateful and vile nonsense during the election. I have better things to do with my time, junior high school was a long, long time ago. You should move on as well. –Rick
