What is going in the Ybor Pizza Space?

For weeks we have been discussing the Ybor Pizza Space and the obvious new tenant. It has been very refreshing to see the work remodeling, painting and cleaning. It appears that Reservations Gourmet Food Delivery and Carry-out will be the new occupants. According to their website the company will offer 5 course meals delivered to your home at affordable prices. Dishes include Talapia Provencal, Orange Roughy, Mosticcioli Pomodoro, Linguini with White Clam Sauce, Pasta Siciliano, Pecan Pork, Yankee Pot Roast and so much more. For the dieters, many dishes list approximate calorie count! You can see their full menu at www.reservationsmenu.com

Ybor has a new tenant because the owner lost his battle to cancer. I learned this today as mourners filed in from his funeral.

His place wasn’t pretty, but the man had a great heart, and could make a hell of a pizza. And to some of the old school, we’ll feel a void in the world.

Is the building still owned by the same person or is that who passed away.

Just to let everyone here know- The Independent, winner of the Best Beer Bar in Tampa Bay 2008 will be opening another bar right here in SH!

It will be located in the old filling station near Cappy’s.

It is proposed for the Van Gogh Signs site (formerly hosting pet groomers, used furniture, gun shop), the next block north of Cappy’s on the same side of the street. They will need to wet-zone the property. Probably either a 2COP (beer/wine, allows package sales) or a 2COP-X (beer/wine, no package sales). Because the property is on the west side of Florida, all the “good-neighbor” notices will to South Seminole Heights. This appears to be a first class operation and, hopefully, it will garner the same type of support at City Council that Cappy’s and Starbucks did. That being said, remember that wetzoning runs with the land, not the business. Today’s chic neighborhood microbrewery can legally become tomorrow’s Hells Angels bar. Also, the issue of parking is still a challenge not only for this site, but most sites along our commercial corridor. Finally, there is the issue of hours restrictions, like those imposed on Bungalow Bistro. Because this is more of a bar than a restaurant (or hair salon) it will be interesting to see what the neighbors, the associations and Council feel wuld be appropriate restrictions, if any. Regardless of these preliminary issues, I wish the owners every success and promise to be there when they pull that first tap!

If the Independant is going to be catering to Randy Baron types, I’ll keep drinking outside the neighborhood or at the Corner Club.
