How can you help your neighbor?
Over dinner last night, a group of us were discussing how the economy is affecting our neighborhood. As we were talking, it was disheartening to hear of all of the job losses, pending foreclosures and neighbors being forced to sale for cheaper living. It got me thinking. How can we help not only our neighborhood, but our neighbors? I am trying to become more diligent in supporting local businesses. This weekend, I made it a point to visit our local retailers so that I could fully understand what it is they sell or offer. I had know idea how nice many of our stores are. Or that many offer incredible deals and inventory. That is just one part of the problem. Without neighbors knowing what they have available, many make assumptions and don’t patronize the establishment. Again, Business owners, you must do a better job publicizing your sales, inventory, etc. I have always offered to post information on this site of any promotions, sales, etc. The more we educate, the better your business does, the better our neighborhood does.
Also, as we were talking last evening, one of the guests mentioned that she had cut her cable off, stopped her cleaning service and was able to save over $150 per month. I began thinking of how little cut backs like these could save $100s each month and possibly help keep people in their homes. The SESH email group has been emailing job opportunities to neighbors hoping to keep or get everyone employed. We are a creative group and I know we have many more options and ideas. Share yours.
I am begging each of you to share your ideas on how we can all help each other out in these hard times to ensure our neighbors and our neighborhood can weather this economic storm together. I would love to hear your ideas. If you have something you would like posted, I invite you to send information to seminoleheightstampa@gmail.com.
