How well do you know the online Seminole Heights?
I stumbled across a really good article on www.sticksoffire.com. For those unfamiliar with this site, sticksoffire is the largest and probably longest running blog site within Tampa. They are usually pretty generous with coverage of Seminole Heights. They had put together the following list of Seminole Heights and blogs. With the exception of the Southeast Seminole Heights reference, it was very favorable. Not the most accurate as far as how often sites are updated, etc but still a good reference. Read on:
As mentioned recently, there are lots of blogs and websites about the Seminole Heights area. Here are some I have found:
- The Official Unoffical Blog of Seminole Heights – An anonymous writer updates this one almost daily.
- Life in Seminole Heights – RLF updates this blog a few times a week.
- Hot Topics – Updated a couple times a week, this one may (or may not) be related to Southeast Seminole Heights Civic Association.
- Seminole Heights Blog – The original, started in 2004 by David Scott Banghart, who has since moved. The remaining bloggers here are doing what they can to keep it going.
- My Seminole Heights - Author Shawn Hicks updates this one on an average of about once a week.
- Recreating Tampa - A blog about lots of stuff, but mostly Tampa and Florida. Writer Dave Davisson lives in Seminole Heights, and includes neighborhood stuff now and again.
- Blogging in Evelyn City - Evelyn City is a subdivision of Old Seminole Heights, initially developed in the early 1900s. This blog is updated now and again.
- Tommy in Old Seminole Heights – OSH resident Tommy McNeeley writes this one, and updates are not as frequent as they once were.
- Seminole Heights Lost & Found – SH L&F is a great idea, but unless something has gone missing, there is no reason to update it. And so it’s not.
- Alan Snel’s Bicycle Stories – The focus here is on bicycling in Tampa, but Seminole Heights is mentioned often, since he’s a member of the Seminole Heights Bike Club.
- A Slice of Seminole Heights UMC – This one focuses on the goings on at the United Methodist Church in Seminole Heights. Some of it relates to the surrounding neighborhood.
- Tampa Heights – OK, so it’s not Seminole Heights. But it is close by. This one is only updated about once a month.
- Seminole Heights.com – other than RSS feeds from Google News and the original Seminole Heights Blog, this one doesn’t seem to be updated manually. It has the look and feel of a Realtor website.
- Historic Seminole Heights – This one does not seem to be updated frequently either, and not sure of the point here.
- Of course, don’t forget Seminole Heights Wikipedia Page – a basic description and limited history of the neighborhoods.
A couple of community based organizations have decent websites, too, some of which are updated regularly.
- Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association – official website for OSHNA includes a blog updated often.
- Southeast Seminole Heights Civic Association – official website for SESHCA is sort of stuck in the 90’s. I’m not certain at all, but the Hot Topics blog may be run by these guys too.
- South Seminole Heights Civic Association – official website for SSHCA doesn’t look like a blog, but seems to be updated fairly often.
- Business Guild of Seminole Heights – official website for BGOSH, and is in the process of being updated.
- Seminole Heights Community Garden – Social networking site for those involved in (or curious about) the new community garden.
- Seminole Heights Foundation – A brand new organization, but thus far boasts of a typical static website.
- Hampton Terrace dot org - includes a very basic look at the subdivision within Seminole Heights.
Finally, there is a band called Waterdigger, and their album is called Welcome To Seminole Heights: … a concept album of sorts dealing with everyday life of the people of Seminole Heights,a suburb of Tampa,Florida. The first song Welcome to Seminole Heights sets the stage for what follows, loss, hurt, lust, bitterness, murder, goodtimes all around.
