Talk about fast responses… From the email campaign that started just yesterday, FDOT’s Public Information Officer submitted the below email to a writer/neighbor.

Thank you for your e-mail.  HART would be responsible for the receptacles at the bus stops.  I have alerted our public transportation department of the issue and they will contact HART directly.

If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Don’t Trash Our Thoroughfares!

Recently, I drove the entire distance of our two major north and south arteries, Florida and Nebraska Ave. I was saddening to see the abundance of litter and debris that cover the right-of-ways of both. However, the one thing that appeared to be a glaring issue is the lack of trash receptacles. Along the corridors, especially the Nebraska Ave stretch, it appears that the majority of public transit shelters, benches and bus stops failed to place the trash receptacles. Therefore, passengers sit on the bench with their colas, snacks and meals. Whey they are finished, the litter is simply tossed on the ground. I have written both FDOT and Hartline. However, neither have responded. Therefore, I am asking for your assistance. Maybe if they receive 100’s of letter, action may be taken. Please take the time to send a quick note to both FDOT and Hartline to request that proper trash receptacles be installed as soon as possible.

Stop the Madness–FIX OUR TRAFFIC LIGHTS!

Have you noticed that over the past few years, the city and FDOT have come through our neighborhood and replaced nearly every single traffic light within our boundaries. Trust me! With gas hitting $4/gallon, I have noticed. Why in the world would the lights be replaced, especially while they repave our thoroughfares, and not have the latest, traffic sensored lights installed. Most of the time, I feel like a minimum of 5 minutes are wasted while sitting–wasting gas!

In a day and time of conservation and high cost of fuel, how can these time wasting lights still be utilized. While they are fixing lights - Please put a turn signal from Hillsborough onto Central.

Measure twice–cut once!

Evidently, this is something FDOT has never heard. How many times can they possibly pave and tear up Nebraska Ave. I have to say that when they first completed the paving project, Nebraska looked good. Then, they came in a day later and started cutting and patching it. It now has almost as many cuts and patches as the original street. Could they not have collaborated as a team, put a plan to paper and completed the job correctly the first. time. Lord I hope they don’t have to cut into the beautiful “peel and stick” bricks.
