NEIGHBORHOOD OLYPMICS

Here is an idea! Many people are oblivious to all of the various neighborhood associations. Many assume Seminole Heights is one gigantic neighborhood. (It was years ago, but has since settled into 3 unique and distinct neighborhood)  For all purposes, the neighborhoods have not organized any event on a large scale and promoted to all residents. With the many green spaces within each neighborhood, we defiantly have some prime property to hold….

SEMINOLE HEIGHTS WINTER OLYMPICS

We could have each neighborhood form teams for various event. Track, sac races, relays, basketball, volleyball, baseball, horse shoes, etc. Neighborhood against neighborhood. A day of fun, games and neighborly socializing. Sound off if you’re interested.

Business Spotlight Clarification

Recently, I received an email asking to explain the purpose of the business spotlight, so here goes…

Having lived in Seminole Heights for many years, I have always felt the neighborhood was lacking in “neighborhood friendly” businesses. I believe that in order for a neighborhood to grow in strength, and popularity, the neighborhood must have businesses and services that cater to the local residents. Over the past few year, we have seen new businesses develop. However, with a tight economy, most do not have budget, or knowledge on how to inform their immediate neighbors/customers of their product and niche services.

I also believe that if the businesses are strong and thriving, it will in turn attract other businesses to look at Seminole Heights at a viable option. There are many business that we pass on a daily basis and wonder what do they do, etc. For example, most people drive by Warner Plumbing without so much as a glance. However, did you know that they carry almost every part known to man that is needed for repairing all of the old bungalows original equipment? In addition, they are the nicest, most customer focused group of people in the city.

The more attention we can bring to Seminole Heights , the easier our quest to better our neighborhood will be. Considering the state of the economy, I feel like this can be a valuable tool to promote our neighborhoods.

With the site being new, and traffic slowly increasing, I am not going to say by posting your message, you will be inundated with calls and new clients, I will say, every little bit may help. So here is my offer again. If you are a business, home based service provider, or even a realtor with properties within Seminole Heights , I will post a brief overview of the services you provide, what makes your company/service unique, property listings, daily specials, discounts, etc. Hopefully, this will encourage residents to “check out” our company, buy in Seminole Heights (Whether it is a product, service or home!) Let’s keep dollars in Seminole Heights and help it grow. I know that Bgosh is continuing to grow so eventually, hopefully, word will get out and each of their members will submit a post.

These posts are not an endorsement of any company, service or realtor over another. These are free and are posted as the original format that the provider sends. If you would like to submit a posting, please email them to seminoleheightstampa@gmail.com.

Waste or Wanted - - Street Sweeping!

Has the need for they city providing the street sweeping service an unnecessary waste of tax payer dollars. Today, throughout Seminole Heights, not one, not two, not three but four street sweepers combed our streets. Zig-Zagging through our neighborhood one leading another occasionally  stopping at a fire hydrant to refill their water supply. I was fascinated with how they moved about throughout the neighborhood so I followed them for a bit to see how effective their service was. As they moved about, they rarely would brush next to the curb. However, they would spray the street with water, move some sand to the middle of the road and leave dark lines in the street, actually leaving it looking a tad worse. I am not sure what the original intent of the street sweeper was, but I believe their usefulness may be obsolete. Maybe going down 275 may serve a purpose, but with fuel at over $4/gallon and unfavorable results I think this is a practice that can be banned to save the city $100’s of thousands of dollars annually. Interestingly, the city says that all residents are responsible for maintaining their right of way, alleys, etc. Why would the front curb not be any different.
