Vacant Houses

From the SESH Email Group:

To all,

As I was returning to my house from Publix, I noticed three TPD cars
next door. I spoke to the officers and they were checking all of the
abandoned houses on the block…checking for squatters and other bad
stuff. They told me to be sure to call if I , or my neighbors, noticed
any activity in the houses. I am sure that McBerry is not the only
street with abandoned houses , so be sure to call TPD if you see any
suspicious activity.

And thank you to TPD for being so vigilant

ATTENTION NEIGHBORHOOD PRESIDENTS!

ATTENTION SEMINOLE HEIGHTS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTS AND
BOARD MEMBERS.I am not sure if any of the neighborhood presidents
or board members read this blog. If you know any board members,
officers, or president, please pass this along.

Recently, I put post on the site regarding “Corporate Giant Neighbors”
and their ill kept properties. Last night, a neighbor from OSHNA
responded to offer a plausible explanation of how these properties
could reach these levels. At the end of her comment, she volunteered
to chair a committee that could keep our corporate neighbors apprised
of the conditions of their properties. I think this is a brilliant suggestion,
however would like to make one of my own. Since these corporations
affect all neighborhoods (Greater Seminole Heights) This should be
an “All Seminole Heights” effort/committee (1) with representation for
all 3 groups.

Part of her comment is copied below. Please read her entire comment
under the post “Should Our Corporate Giant Neighbors be Held by
the Same Standards?” (August)

We are all very powerful individually and even more so as a
neighborhood. Perhaps this calls for an ad hoc committee to
find resolution. I’ll gladly volunteer to be the chair, but I can’t
seem to figure out how to post except anonymously (yes I have
a blog account with a matching password and I’m computer literate).

If anyone is interested in really taking action, call me and we’ll get it done.

Best, Kelly Norton

Should Animal Control Show More Teeth?

Recently, I posted an email from one of our neighbors from SESH email group. Since then the site has received many post from neighbors with similar issues. I can tell you that this problem is becoming an epidemic throughout our city. Until we as tax paying citizens stand up and say “enough”, thing will not improve. It breaks my heart each time I see an animal caged or chained up outside in the hot Florida Heat, or caged with poor shelter in the constant summer rains.

As I see this constant form of animal cruelty, I could never understand why these people have decided to become pet owners in the first place. What joy or satisfaction do they get from having a pet tied up and constantly barking? Recently, I noticed a neighbor that had decided to purchase one of the “temporary” swimming pools. You know the one. The one that cost about $500-600 at Sam’s. Yet, there is no fence around the property, and their poor dog is chained to a wire crate. Not a dog house, a crate. First of all, if they have the kind of money to purchase a pool, you would think they would worry more about the fence.

I believe that we as Hillsborough County residents need to fight to change the ordinances for all pet owners. Maybe I am being generous here, but I believe that you should not be allowed to have a dog chained up for more than 30 days (Personally, I would like to see that you can’t chain a pet without supervision.) If you are going to become a pet owner, you must first have adequate housing and fencing for the pet.  Each year, thousands of pets die as a result of being chained. (Strangulation, heat, dehydration, or escape to be ran over)

What are your thoughts? Sound off!

More Solid Waste Concerns.

This came from the SESH Email Group. It appears that Solid Waste continues to struggle as they try to adjust to new leadership. From missed pick ups to poor service, they have been under much scrutiny. Read On.

Is solid waste now only picking up what is in the blue trash containers? Ours was full, so I put some trash in a regular garbage can — which they studiously ignored. I know that previously they were picking up what was in the blue cans, and other things.
